Initiated by the Center for Icelandic Art, Homesick is a project composed of four exhibitions, taking place more or less on the fringes of the European Union. Working with three other partners in Turkey (Platform Garanti Contemporary Art Center), Israel (Center for Contemporary Art Tel Aviv) and Switzerland (venue to be decided), the project will consider issues of cultural identity by exploring the notion of homesickness and how our concept of home is made manifest. The term homesick will be used both to express the idealisation of homeland, as well as its opposite: to be sick of home.

The exhibition concept Homesick will tour to each venue, where the local curator will select works by artists coming from the four participating countries to discuss a specific angle related to the topic of homeland. The first exhibition in the series takes place in May in Iceland. Homesick will then tour to Istanbul in November/December 2006 and Tel Aviv in Spring 2007.

A catalogue cross-referencing the four exhibitions and related events will be published at the end of the process.
